A delicious, homemade Blue Cheese Dressing is super easy to make!

If you were to go out to dinner at a restaurant with my husband Jack and me, chances are one of us (and more likely both of us) would order Blue Cheese Dressing on our salad. It’s our all-time favorite salad dressing!
So – it will probably come as no surprise that we have our own homemade Blue Cheese Dressing recipe that we make a home all the time. Once you’ve made this blue cheese dressing yourself, you’ll never think about buying the bottled dressing again!
Blue Cheese Dressing is fantastic on a salad – but it’s also a must-serve dip for Buffalo Wings, or as a sauce in our Buffalo Chicken Dip, Buffalo Chicken Pizza, and Buffalo Chicken Nachos.
How do you make Blue Cheese Dressing?
Our homemade Blue Cheese Dressing uses a combination of mayonnaise, buttermilk, and crème fraiche as the creamy base. Sour cream can be substituted if you can’t find crème fraiche at your local market or if you don’t want to make it at home – but, crème fraiche will give this blue cheese dressing a smoother taste, so try to use it if you can.
The creamy base is seasoned with Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, a pinch of cayenne, and a couple of dashes of Tabasco sauce – which all help balance the richness of this dressing. And of course – use the best blue cheese you can find for a truly memorable, homemade Blue Cheese Dressing.

This is the best blue cheese dressing I ever had. Thanks for the great recipe
You’re welcome Mary – so glad you enjoyed the dressing!
I can’t believe I haven’t commented yet on this awesome recipe! We always have some in the fridge and when it’s gone, I make more right away. I have tried other recipes, but yours is the absolute best! Thank you for all the recipes you share. I can always trust your recipes and sometimes make them the first time -for company, because I know they will be really good.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write to us Jean – we’re so glad you are enjoying this dressing, and other recipes too! You’ve paid us a huge compliment and we greatly appreciate it!
Very good and creamy! I used 8oz of gorgonzola dulce which doesn’t crumble so I used the hand mixer to get it incorporated. Really yummy and easy. My go-to recipe for blue cheese dressing. Thank you!
You’re welcome Nanette – so glad you enjoyed the recipe!
Do you have any feelings about substituting Mexican Crema for the Sour Cream/Cream fraiche? I have a problem digesting sour cream , but Crema is ok for me.
Hi Ann – The Mexican crema we’ve tried has a fairly strong lime flavor – which probably won’t go well in this recipe. But if the variety you are using isn’t so citrus-y, it could definitely work.
Hello, how long can I keep it in the fridge
Hi – This dressing should be good for up to a week in the refrigerator.
Your recipe is different from the usual ones, I have been trying to make a good bleu cheese dressing forever, can’t wait to try this, thanks!
Let us know how you like it Jenna!
This looks amazing! Blue cheese is sometimes a little strong for me. I prefer dressings that are a little more mild. Any sudjestions for a mild brand of blue cheese? Thanks! You have beautiful pictures by the way.
Thank you so much Ashley! Danish Blue and Gorgonzola cheeses are typically considered among the more ‘mild’ blue cheeses (although I’ve had some strong Gorgonzolas in the past!).
