Not to brag 😉 – but this Creamy Italian Dressing is better than anything you’ll find sold in a bottle! It also couldn’t be any easier to make.
Chances are you have most of the ingredients to make this Creamy Italian Dressing already in your kitchen – mayonnaise, extra virgin olive oil, Dijon mustard, Parmesan cheese, and a blend of Italian seasonings including oregano, basil, garlic powder, celery salt, freshly ground black pepper – plus a pinch of red pepper flakes for some gentle heat.
We also used champagne vinegar in this homemade Creamy Italian Dressing, and it adds a unique, extra punch to this dressing. (In a pinch, white wine vinegar can we swapped in, but please try to use the champagne vinegar if possible to ensure the best results.)
This Creamy Italian Dressing is very versatile, and it is wonderful on a tossed garden salad. And – check out our Creamy Italian Pasta Salad which is also made with this fantastic, creamy dressing.

Creamy Italian Dressing
An easy, homemade Creamy Italian Dressing.
Ingredients
1/4 cup champagne vinegar
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon dry oregano
1/2 teaspoon dry basil
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon celery salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Pinch of red pepper flakes
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup mayonnaise
Instructions
In a medium bowl, whisk vinegar, sugar, oregano, basil, garlic powder, celery salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, Parmesan cheese and Dijon mustard.
While whisking, slowly drizzle in the olive oil. (Helpful hint: Place a towel under your bowl so it stays in one place while you whisk).
Whisk in the mayonnaise and serve.

This is my favorite recipe for Italian dressing. My only change is that I use white wine vinegar as I never find champagne vinegar in my local stores. Great recipe!
Thanks Christine – a white balsamic is another great option.
Wonderfully yummy dressing!
Thank you Jennifer!
Made this tonight, a 1/2 recipe, as I like to keep my concoctions small. I made it with the vinegar and dry ingredients, then whisked in the mayo, then put it in a shaker bottle with the EVOO & shook it vigorously. It came out perfectly! It sat a few minutes as I assembled the salad. It tasted a lot tangier before I added the EVOO than it did when I poured it over the salad. There’s enough left for about 2 more salads, & I’m going to enjoy this in the rotation with the other dressings I love to enjoy! This one is especially good for me as it does not require any fresh ingredients (garlic, herbs, etc.) as I am looking forward to continuing the rotation when I pack up the RV & take off. Thank you for a very good recipe, exactly what I need!
You’re very welcome David – glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks Debra – Great suggestion!
Could I substitute celery seed for celery salt?
Hi Kathy – My apologies for the delay in responding. Celery salt is a mix of salt and celery seed – so you can use a mix of the two in this dressing. Hope that helps!
This sounds delish but could I used red wine vinegar or plain while vinegar instead of champagne ? I have always purchased the bottled dressing, which I like, but this sounds awesome!
Yes – we mentioned in the post that we recommend white wine vinegar as a substitution for champagne vinegar. We hope you enjoy the recipe!
