Salted Caramel Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookies are loaded with all kinds of delicious mix-ins, plus a sprinkle of sea salt on top enhances the sweet flavors.
Cookies with a Salty-Sweet Twist
These Salted Caramel Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookies are a delicious change of pace from the classic chocolate chip cookie.
It starts with the same buttery cookie base, but a combination of semi-sweet chocolate morsels, caramel bits, and chopped pecans are mixed into the dough. After the cookies come out of the oven, some coarse sea salt is sprinkled on top to settle into the crevices as the cookies cool.
The punch of salt as you bite into these cookies is surprisingly good – and it perfectly complements the sweetness and flavors of the chocolate and caramel. Chopped pecans add a touch of crunchy texture, as well as a touch more saltiness.
Why you’ll love Salted Caramel Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookies
- The combination of semi-sweet chocolate, sweet caramel, crunchy pecans, in a buttery cookie are a match made in heaven.
- If that isn’t enough, the surprising burst of crunchy salt in every bite makes these cookies irresistible with a tall, cold glass of milk.
- You can keep the ingredients on hand and bake up a fresh batch at a moment’s notice.
Key Ingredients & Substitutions
- Chocolate Chips – Use semi-sweet chocolate chips for a balanced flavor in these cookies.
- Caramel Bits – We specifically recommend the Kraft Caramel Bits for this recipe. These are little bits of real caramel candy and have the best caramel flavor. You can find them at Walmart or online here. (We do not recommend the softer caramel baking chips or morsels – in my opinion, those have a fake butterscotch flavor.)
- Pecans – While any nut can be added to this cookie, we think the flavor of pecans works really well with the chocolate and caramel flavor combination.
- Coarse Sea Salt – Look for coarse sea salt such as this. Not only will you taste the salty flavor, the large flakes add a wonderful crunch.
- All-purpose Flour
- Baking Soda
- Table Salt
- Unsalted Butter
- Sugar – You’ll use both granulated sugar and light brown sugar
- Vanilla Extract
- Eggs
Special Tools Needed
- Cutting Board and Sharp Knife
- Various Measuring Cups and Spoons
- Small Bowl
- Whisk
- Stand Mixer with Paddle Attachment or Hand Mixer and Large Bowl
- Small Cookie Scoop – #60 size or 1 tablespoon
- Baking Sheets – We like the insulated cookie sheets like this.
