Reindeer Munch combines crispy cereal, pretzels, peanuts, holiday M&Ms and sprinkles, plus melted white chocolate. Serve in bowls at all your holiday gatherings or give as gifts!
Reindeer Munch Snack Mix
I love the combination of salty-sweet snacks and this easy Reindeer Munch snack mix satisfies all my cravings! This easy holiday treat is great to make for the holidays, especially when you’re short on time but still want a delicious snack or need something easy for gift-giving.
It takes just minutes to mix up a big batch of Reindeer Munch. Simply mix crispy cereal, small salted pretzels, dry roasted salted peanuts, and M&M candies together in a big bowl. Drizzle melted white chocolate over the top and stir the mix again, so everything gets a light coating of chocolate.
Pour the mixture out onto sheet trays– adding holiday-colored sprinkles to the top if you’d like for a little extra festive color. Once the Reindeer Munch cools and firms up, break into bite-sized pieces for easy snacking and serving at holiday parties.
Gift-Giving and other Suggestions
We like to give Reindeer Munch as a gift around the holidays. We pack it into holiday-themed food storage containers with a bow tied on top. Easy and delicious!
You can also make this to enjoy other times of the year. Look for pastel-colored M&M’s around the Easter holiday, as well as red, white, and blue M&M’s around the July 4th holiday.
Why you’ll love Reindeer Munch
- The salty-sweet combination of flavors and the crunchy texture is irresistable!
- It’s so pretty and festive – and delicious to eat!
- This is great for gifting and doesn’t take a lot of time or effort to make. (Perfect for when things get busy around the holidays.)
Key Ingredients & Substitutions
- Crispy Cereal – We used Crispix cereal in our Reindeer Munch since we like the combination of the rice and corn together. Chex cereal can also be used (either corn or rice).
- Small Pretzels – The mini twist/knotted pretzels like this work perfectly in this recipe.
- Dry Roasted Salted Peanuts – Don’t be tempted to get the unsalted version – you definitely want the salted dry roasted peanuts.
- Plain M&M’s – We chose red and green M&Ms for a Christmas-y look but any colors will work in this recipe.
- White Chocolate – We highly recommend using Ghirardelli white chocolate chips. It’s a quality brand that melts nicely and has a good flavor.
- Vegetable Oil – Just a little is added to the white chocolate chips as they melt. This helps give the melted chocolate a smooth consistency that drizzles easily.
- Sprinkles – Again, we chose red and green sprinkles for the Christmas holiday, but you can go with any color scheme to suit the occasion or holiday.
Special Tools Needed
- Two Sheet Trays lined with Parchment Paper
- Very Large Bowl (or two) – For combining all of the ingredients.
- Large Spatula – For mixing the ingredients.
- Smaller Spatula or Whisk
- Microwave-Safe Bowl
- Air-Tight Food Storage Containers
How do I make Reindeer Munch?
- Line sheet trays with parchment paper and set aside.
- Combine cereal, pretzels, peanuts, and M&Ms in a very large bowl (or two if necessary) and mix.
- Combine white chocolate chips and vegetable oil in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring with a spatula after each, until melted. Avoid overheating the chocolate (see Tips and Tricks below).
- Pour melted white chocolate over the cereal mixture and immediately stir so the chocolate coats the dry ingredients completely.
- Pour the coated cereal mixture onto the prepared sheet trays and spread into a flat layer.
- Add sprinkles over the top (before the chocolate starts to cool) if desired.
- Chill the sheet pans in the refrigerator until set.
- Break the cooled Reindeer Munch into bite-size chunks with your hands, then store in air-tight containers at room temperature until ready to serve.
Tips & Tricks
- When using the microwave to melt chocolate, it is very important to avoid overheating the chocolate. When chocolate gets too hot, it “seizes” and becomes hard and will be impossible to melt any further.
- It’s always best to microwave the chocolate in short bursts – 30 seconds at first, then every 15 seconds or so after that once the chocolate starts to melt. Be sure to stir or whisk after each interval of microwaving. The residual heat of the bowl will help the chocolate melt, so be sure to stir well, and stop right when the chocolate has fully melted.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I make Reindeer Munch ahead of time? You can, although it’s best made within a couple of days of eating or gift-giving.
- How do I store leftovers? Store in an air-tight container for up to a week. If your home is very warm, keep it in the refrigerator to prevent the chocolate from melting.

Reindeer Munch
Reindeer Munch combines crispy cereal, pretzels, peanuts, holiday M&Ms and sprinkles, plus melted white chocolate. Serve in bowls at all your holiday gatherings or give as gifts!
Ingredients
6 cups Crispix Cereal (most of a 9.6 ounce box) or Corn Chex
6 cups small pretzels
16-ounces dry roasted salted peanuts
1 1/2 cups plain M&Ms (approximately 1 11-ounce bag), we used red and green holiday colors
4 cups (2 12-ounce bags) Ghirardelli premium white chocolate chips
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/4 cup holiday (red & green) sprinkles, optional
Instructions
- Line two sheet trays with parchment paper. Set aside.
- In a very large bowl, combine cereal, pretzels, peanuts, and M&Ms. (Note that it’s fine to divide the ingredients into two bowls if you don’t have one bowl that is large enough to mix everything together.)
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine white chocolate chips and vegetable oil.
- Microwave chocolate until melted, stirring with a spatula after 30-second intervals. Be careful not to overheat the white chocolate – it can seize up and even burn. Stir well after every 30 seconds, allowing the residual heat of the bowl to melt the chocolate.
- Pour melted white chocolate over the cereal mixture. With a large spatula, immediately stir and fold the ingredients so the chocolate coats the dry ingredients evenly.
- Spoon the coated mixture onto the prepared sheet trays and spread into a flat layer. Add sprinkles over the top if desired.
- Chill the sheet pans in the refrigerator until set.
- Break the cooled Reindeer Munch into chunks with your hands, then store in air-tight containers at room temperature.
