A Pomfresca Float combines pomegranate juice, Fresca soda, and creamy vanilla ice cream in a delicious drink – perfect for any holiday party!
This recipe for a Pomfresca Float is a fun and very delicious drink to serve for the kids at a holiday party – or any other festive occasion!
How do you make it?
The recipe is simple: just combine one part pomegranate juice to two parts Fresca soda, then top it with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. The sweet pomegranate juice is nicely balanced by the grapefruit-flavored soft-drink, and topped with creamy ice cream…this is a dessert drink that is sure to please anyone – kids and grownups alike!
We do recommend that you use POM Wonderful* brand of pomegranate juice, which you can find in the produce section of most local supermarkets. Their juice is 100% pomegranate and it’s far more concentrated than some of the other brands of pomegranate juice we’ve tried from the non-refrigerated juice aisle.
We also recommend selecting a premium vanilla ice cream such as Häagen-Dazs. The super creamy ice cream will stay more intact as a float, rather than just melting into the drink.
Fresca is mostly sold in 12-packs of cans these days, found in the soda aisle at the supermarket. If you can’t find it, you could swap in any lemon-lime soda – but we do think the grapefruit flavor of Fresca is better for this beverage if you can find it.
(*This is not a sponsored post; we’re just sharing our opinion on specific brands so you have the best-tasting results!)
How do you serve it?
We chill both the POM pomegranate juice and the Fresca – then mix it in a pitcher as the party begins. Pour the Pomfresca juice-soda mixture into little cups, then use a small scoop to place the ice cream gently on top of each serving.
You could also serve this in a punch bowl if you’d like – mixing the juice and soda, then floating several scoops of ice cream in the bowl to scoop out for each serving. If you decide to do this, we’d suggest freezing some of the pomegranate juice in ice cube trays, then adding those to the juice mixture as it sits. (These juice ice cubes will keep the drinks cold and will avoid diluting.)

Hi again Martha!
It could be a regional thing regarding the bottled Fresca… I believe Coca Cola is headquartered in the South. Local grocery stores like Food Lion and Harris Teeter where I live started carrying them in the six packs only a short time ago. I hope you find them in your stores soon… if not, ask your store manager to carry them. Blessings!

Thanks – it could be!! 🙂

HI Martha and Jack!
No , Have not tried this yet but actually have Fresca in my fridge right now. Been drinking the stuff for years since my son was a baby. You can also buy it in the six pack of 16.9oz bottles now … I prefer them as the fizz lasts longer in a screw top but no matter…. sounds like a great drink for entire family. Have a lovely holiday season and blessings in the New Year!

Thanks Doris – Good to know – we’ve only been able to find the cans lately (and for a while, we couldn’t find it at all). Happy (almost) New Year to you too!
