Star Spangled Fruit Salad - A Family Feast

With the long Memorial Day weekend finally here, what better recipe to share today than this Star Spangled Fruit Salad!

True – this can hardly be called a ‘recipe’ and really it is more of a method for you to follow if you’d like to make your holiday picnic fruit salad a little more patriotic and festive!

Star Spangled Fruit Salad - A Family Feast

Simply slice a seedless watermelon into one-inch slices, then use star-shaped cookie cutters to cut the melon. (We used two different sized cookie cutters just for some variety – but use what you have!)

Then – place the watermelon stars in a bowl with some fresh blueberries – and your Star Spangled Fruit Salad is ready to serve!

You can also add additional fruit if you’d like of course, and if you’d like to add some white to your red and blue fruits – just serve with a dollop of whipped cream.

Have a safe and wonderful weekend everyone!

  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 seedless watermelon
  • 1 pint fresh blueberries

Instructions

  1. Carefully cut watermelon into slices – approximately 1-inch thick. (To get the most stars out of your slice, try to leave the watermelon whole while you slice.)
  2. Lay each slice flat on a cutting board. Using a star-shaped cookie cutter, push down firmly to create your watermelon stars. Continue to cut star shapes, getting the cookie cutter as close as possible to the prior cuts.
  3. Add watermelon stars to a serving bowl along with fresh blueberries.
  4. Serve immediately or chill until ready to serve.

Notes

Note: You will also need some star-shaped cookie cutters to prepare this recipe.
