Today’s recipe for Hungry Grilled Romaine Salad has helped me cross an item off my culinary bucket list! I’ve seen grilled salads before – but I’ve never tried making one at home!
So when Pompeian Olive Oil invited us to participate in their celebration for National Grilling Month by trying their Pompeian Grapeseed and OlivExtra Premium Mediterranean Blend oils – and they shared some great recipes from “Hungry Girl” Lisa Lillien using their oils – I knew exactly which recipe I wanted to try first!
This Hungry Grilled Romaine Salad is a delicious example of food that is part of the Mediterranean diet – a highly regarded, heart-healthy eating plan that emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds, and healthy fats. Pompeian Grapeseed and OlivExtra Premium Mediterranean Blend oils (as well as their other delicious oils and vinegars) fit right into a Mediterranean diet, and they are a great option if you are looking to substitute butter and other oils in your cooking and recipes.
Pompeian oils are also perfect for grilling – Pompeian Grapeseed Oil has one of the highest smoking points of all oils, so it’s a perfect all-natural tool for prepping your grill before cooking (just brush some of the oil onto your hot grill to help prevent foods from sticking while they cook!). And the OlivExtra Mediterranean Blend is a healthy combination of canola, extra virgin, and grapeseed oils so it’s a versatile and delicious option for salads, grilling or marinades.
We used the OlivExtra Premium Mediterranean Blend oil when preparing this Hungry Grilled Romaine Salad and it was delicious! The dressing was light and perfect on a salad! Grilling the lettuce warms it up just a bit, but also gives the lettuce a really unique and nutty flavor! And, if you’ve seen any of Lisa Lillien’s other recipes – she’s all about adding tons of flavor without adding calories – and grilling the lettuce definitely does the trick! This was a simple delicious recipe – and now that I’ve overcome my fear of grilling lettuce — we’ll definitely make this again.
