Our homemade Taco Seasoning mix uses pantry ingredients and tastes just like packaged mixes – at a fraction of the cost.

Ingredients

Scale

1/4 cup corn flour

3 tablespoons chili powder

3 tablespoons dried minced onion

1 1/2 tablespoons dried ground cumin

1 tablespoon dried minced garlic

1 tablespoon corn starch

2 teaspoons dried oregano

1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon granulated sugar

1 teaspoon dried beef boullion granules

1/2 tablespoon sea salt

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients into a small food processor or coffee grinder and process to a fine powder, about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Store in an airtight container at room temperature until needed.

To use:

  1. Brown one pound of 93/7 ground beef but do not drain juices.
  2. Add one cup of water and four tablespoons of the spice mix.
  3. Cook over medium low for five minutes.
  4. Add more water and/or more spice mix to suit your tastes.

Notes

Don’t be tempted to use garlic powder and onion powder. Grinding up the garlic and onion flakes adds a slightly different taste than the powdered versions.

Bob’s Red Mill sells corn flour. You could also use masa harina or fine corn meal which will be ground further with the rest of the spices.
