Homemade BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

2 tablespoons olive oil

1/2 cup sweet onion, diced fine

3 tablespoons tomato paste

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

2 cups ketchup

1/4 cup molasses

1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon kosher salt

1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon chili powder

1/2 teaspoon cumin

1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

Pinch cayenne pepper


Instructions

In a medium non-stick sauce pan over medium to medium low heat, add oil and once heated, add onions and cook for five minutes stirring with a wooden spoon.

Add tomato paste and mix and cook for five more minutes, stirring often.

Add all other ingredients, heat, cover with a splatter screen and cook on medium low to low for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Stir again and refrigerate until needed. This sauce will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
