This Cabbage Blend recipe is the basis for all of the recipes that are part of our Weekday Triple Play recipe series. Mix this cabbage blend once at the beginning of the week, and you’ll be on your way toward making three easy and delicious family meals that start with this one versatile recipe!
The cabbage blend is a mix of green cabbage, red cabbage, Chinese cabbage, carrots and scallions – and as part of this series, you get recipes for a delicious Beef and Cabbage Stir Fry, Beef Calzones (using a portion of the cooked Beef and Cabbage Stir Fry as the filling), and finally, a fresh California Slaw (using some of this raw cabbage blend for that salad).
And, we’ll even let you in on another time-saving tip…the green and red cabbage, and the carrots in this recipe could be substituted with a bagged cabbage mix for making coleslaw that is sometimes sold in the produce section of some local supermarkets. The prepackaged cabbage mix won’t have the Chinese cabbage or the scallions in the bag – so to get the best flavors for these recipes, we do recommend that you supplement any bagged mix with the Chinese cabbage and scallions that are called for in this recipe.

Weekday Triple Play: Cabbage Blend
This recipe, as written, will give you enough Cabbage Blend to make all three Weekday Triple Play meals. If you want to make just the Beef and Cabbage Stir Fry – make a total of 7 2/3 cups of the cabbage blend. (5 cups green cabbage, 2 cups Chinese cabbage, a little shredded carrot and 2/3 cup green onions.) If you want to make just the Beef Calzones – make a total of 2 cups of the cabbage blend. (1 cup green cabbage, 3/4 cup Chinese cabbage, a little shredded carrot and 1/4 cup green onions.) If you want to make just the California Slaw – make a total of 4 cups of the cabbage blend. (2 cups green cabbage, 2 cups Chinese cabbage, a little shredded carrot and 1/3 cup green onions.)
Ingredients
- 7 cups shredded green cabbage
- ½ cup shredded red cabbage
- ½ cup shredded carrots
- 4 cups shredded Chinese cabbage
- 1 cup scallions (or green onion), cut into ½ inch diagonal slices
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together to combine.
- Set aside 4 cups of the cabbage blend in a container for the California Slaw and refrigerate.
- Proceed to the Beef and Cabbage Stir Fry recipe for meal #1 of this series.
