If you are a regular reader here at A Family Feast, then you may have noticed that we’ve been on a bit of a breakfast theme over the last few days. We’ve shared recipes for homemade Cinnamon Raisin English Muffins, Oat Buttermilk Waffles, and now today’s fantastic Scallion Cream Cheese Bagel Spread!
Years ago, when my husband Jack worked in food service management, the facility he managed baked hundreds of fresh bagels every morning, and they served several different cream cheese spreads along with the bagels.
Two of the most popular cream cheese spreads they served included a sun dried tomato and basil spread (you can see that recipe here) and this Scallion Cream Cheese Bagel Spread.
Just two simple ingredients – but this spread is fantastic! A chewy, hearty toasted bagel, slathered with creamy and sweet-tangy cream cheese that has been mixed with scallions and their fresh, onion-y crunch – its a perfect breakfast combination! We especially like this Scallion Cream Cheese Bagel Spread with herbed, oat, or multi grain bagels.

Hello Martha and Jack!
It ‘s been quite a long time and I miss getting your notifications for recipes. You may have remembered that I was not getting feedbacks from you when I left a comment. OH well. I was longing for some of this spread and saw yours right away when googled it. Couldn’t be easier! No garlic in here but I might throw in a pinch of garlic powder. Hope you and yours are in fine health. Been a hard year for so many. Count my blessings all day . Take care.

Hi Doris! Nice to hear from you and I do always respond to comments. I wonder if they are going your spam folder? I’m glad you found our recipe and enjoyed it! (It would be delicious with a touch of garlic powder!) ☺️

Hi Martha!
Yes , I did see your comment above this time. I will be sure to look for the recipes which you and Jack post. They have always been winners. Thanks for reaching out to me … by the way, the girl child came back from Boston this year to North Carolina. Got a position at UNCC in Chapel Hill. She’ll miss her friends but it definitely was a good career move for he. Have a happy day!

Where I used to live, (Nantucket, and I just read your recipe for Nantucket corn pudding 😁), there was a local restaurant that made a breakfast sandwich that I fell in love with. It was a toasted bagel with cream cheese, scallions, fresh sliced tomato, and bacon. Similar to salmon and lox I guess, but I prefer the bacon. It was to die for… if you have never had it I highly recommend making one next time you make this spread! 😀

That breakfast sandwich sounds amazing Leah! Thanks for the suggestion!

I love it when the most simple ingredients wind up being the taste that hits the spot. This would be a perfect snack at work right now!

I’ve made a spread similar to this before! I usually add lobster meat or ham in the spread! It’s ADDICTIVE!!!!! 😀
Martha says
Wow Mercedes – Your version sounds even more delicious! 🙂

Thank you! I have put them in alfredo sauce over noodles previously, and thought they’d taste great as a dip for crackers (like Triscuits) as well, if I mixed the lobster or ham with scallions in cream cheese! It turned out to be a lovely experiment! 😀

And the imitation lobster works just as well!
